Roger W. Abbott, age 83, of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2024. Born on November 4, 1940 to the late Joseph and Ruth (McCreary) Abbott, he was a proud son of the North Side. He was also preceded in death by four of his siblings, Richard (Louise), Joanne Crumrine, Jean Robbibaro (Rudolph), and Margaret Anthos (Harry).
Roger will continue to be cherished by his beloved wife, Marlene Schoenhardt Abbott and step daughter Michelle Schoenhardt. He is also survived by his brother Joseph (Janie) and treasured nephew Richard (Dicky) Abbott (Eileen), along with Mike Tschannen (Sandy), Kassie and Katelynn Kelly, and Sharon Smith. He will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, coworkers, and friends, especially neighbors Denny and Linda Brown.
Roger was a dedicated employee of the city of Pittsburgh Forestry Department for 40 years including many as supervisor. He selected the city’s Christmas tree displayed at the City County Building, none of which were more spectacular than the tree he and Marlene were married at by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl in 2010.
Visitation and services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by O’Brien Funeral Home of the North Side. His family would like to offer a special thanks to the AHN Palliative/Hospice team for their kind and compassionate care.
In honor of Roger, remember to be kind, stay pretty, drive slowly, and enjoy a cup of coffee with a couple of plain donuts.
