Norma E. (Owens), 96, of Paramount Senior Living in Bethel Park, former 67 year resident of Brighton Heights, passed into her new life on November 9th, 2020. Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Nieman. Also by three brothers, Herbert and Robert of St. Petersburg, FL., Raymond Owens of Aliquippa, Pa., and a sister, May (Owens) Peckskamp of Carnegie. She is survived by her four children, Bonnie L. Rodgers of Jacksonville, FL., Nancy (Gary) Patterson of Brentwood, Thomas R. (Laura) Nieman of Stowe Township and Lisa (Mark) Nieman-Vento of Brighton Heights along with 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Norma was a 1942 graduate of Avalon H.S. who lettered in three sports and was voted best overall athlete her senior year. She was a stay-at-home mom, but did work for an insurance company and for the University of Pittsburgh. She also taught sewing and knitting for Sears Roebuck and at LaRoche College. She was an icon in the world of sewing, making all of her family's clothing including suits and coats. She could also knit, do macrame', needlepoint hand stitching and ceramics, as well as design outfits and patterns for every type of sewing.
Her greatest love, however, was her family. She devoted her entire life to raising them with faith, honor, integrity, character and manners. She was the consummate provider!
Family will receive visitors (Masks required) Thursday, November 12th from 3pm to 8pm at OBRIENS, 3724 California at Cooper Aves., N.S. Funeral Mass in Christ Our Savior/St. Cyril of Alexandria Church Friday, November 13th at 10am. Interment at Northside Catholic Cemetery.
