Mary Jewel Margaret (Derby) Marlovits, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Mary, daughter of William and Julia McGonigal, was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and resided there her entire life. She and her beloved husband Edward S. Derby had five children. Edward passed away suddenly at the age of 38. She later married George Marlovits, with whom she remained until his death.
Mary is survived by her son Edward (Shana) Derby of Pittsburgh; daughter Sheryl (James) Clifton of Newport News, Virginia; son Daniel (Mary) Derby of Pittsburgh; daughter Maryann (Barton) Moore of Pittsburgh; daughter Diane Berger of Pittsburgh. Mary had eleven grandchildren; Melissa, Ashley, Daniel, Abigail and Ethan Derby; Kelly (Clifton) Wallace and James Clifton; Conlan Moore; Emily, Sydney and Megan Berger; and great grandchild Channing Cheeks; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother William B. McGonigal.
Mary was the quintessential mother, dedicating herself to her children and grandchildren. She was a strong, kind, soft-spoken and gentle woman; a devout Catholic and person of faith. Mainly a housewife and mother, she was also in the workforce for many years as an employee of Dollar Bank. Mary had many hobbies such as gardening, playing cards, traveling and baking. She was also a talented seamstress who made custom clothing for her girls when they were young. She was very active in her church and enjoyed singing in the Resurrection Church Choir. But her greatest joy, especially later in life, was spending time with her family, and her dearest friends.
Viewing will be held at O’Brien’s Funeral Home, 3724 California Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15212 on Thursday June 3, 2021 from 2:00pm-8:00pm.
