Marcella “Marcy” Shaughnessy (Kravich), 94, of Brighton Heights, Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully at home on March 26.
Born in Pittsburgh, Marcy was the daughter of Mary and John Kravich. She attended St. Benedict Academy and later graduated from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing. While working night shifts as a nurse in the steel mills of Braddock, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duquesne University—marking the beginning of a lifelong career dedicated to caring for others. Marcy lovingly supported her parents and grandparents, and later devoted herself to her four children, her in-laws, as well as many neighbors and friends. After raising her family, she continued her education and went on to serve as a school nurse for Pittsburgh Public Schools, where she concluded her professional career.
Marcy combined her creativity with her love of friendship through ceramics. What began as classes with a neighbor grew into a true passion, and she eventually inherited an entire ceramics studio, transforming her home into a welcoming space where friends gathered to create, share stories, and enjoy one another’s company on evenings and weekends. She leaves an extensive collection of beautiful works, especially treasured were her Santa figures from around the world. Always eager to share her time and talents, Marcy participated in many school, church, and community activities including the Catholic Daughters of America.
She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Shaughnessy, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. She was a loving and proud mother to Thomas E. (Pamela) Shaughnessy, Marianne Shaughnessy, Patricia (Eric) Jerme, and James J. (Christine) Shaughnessy. She was a cherished grandmother to Christopher and Timothy Jerme, and Thomas and Ryan Shaughnessy. Marcy was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Louise Sedonia; her sister, Cecelia K. Thompson; and her brother, John Kravich.
Marcy's home was always open to others. She was never too busy for conversation and freely offered her kindness, wisdom, and support to everyone she met. She hosted countless holidays, reunions, and gatherings, creating lasting memories for all who knew her. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at O’Brien’s Funeral Home from 3–7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cyril of Alexandria Church on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
