John "Jack" William Stalter, 81 of Spring Hill, North Side, Pittsburgh, left this world surrounded by his family at 11:59 PM November 26, 2022. He was born October 15, 1941. He is preceded in death by his parents Regis W. and Helen R. (Walsh) Stalter and his sister Alice Mary Stalter.
He was a quiet and humble man that loved God and his family. He was known for his charitable nature and would be the first to give anyone the shirt off his back and his last $5. He was the Director of Spark of Hope Ministries for 17 years where he coordinated donations of food and furniture for the poor and needy of Pittsburgh. He also loved to sing and was a member of many choirs including the Planting Grace Contemporary Choir, Most Holy Name Choir, St. Boniface/Holy Wisdom Choir and St. Boniface Folk Group. He sang at several churches in the Pittsburgh and Greensburg Dioceses. John also recorded 2 CDs with in his choir career one called "Planting Grace" with the Planting Grace Contemporary Choir and another called "Come and Follow Me" with Most Holy Name Choir. John was a founding member of the "Folk Group" at St. Boniface in the early 1990's, a member of Pittsburgh Men’s Emmaus Ministry, and a 2011 Inductee of North Catholic Alumni Hall of Fame. His favorite hobbies included golfing, woodworking, gardening, fishing and was well known by all for his love of donuts and other sweets.
He created multiple blessings and creations during his lifetime through his woodworking including:

Monstrance - Divine Mercy of Jesus: Fr. Tony Gargotta, St. Bernadette's Monroeville
Golden Eagle - A hand carved eagle with a 7ft. wingspan, made of mahogany
John is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Susan (Schwartz) Stalter, children Jeannine (Robert) Goelz, Monica (Martin) Parker, and Sandra (Dean) Dulski. Grandchildren, Casey (Michael) Proctor, Steven Hench, Christopher (Katerina) Fritsky, Maria (Michael) Shemer, Jacob Fritsky, and Shannon Goelz. Great-grandchildren Blake and Briella Proctor, Faustina Shemer, and Oliver Hench. Brother to James (Dolly) Stalter, Barbara (Gerard) Snyder, Paul (Laura) Stalter, Audrey (Fred) Krummert, William (Carol) Stalter, Lois (Joseph) Leonard, Phyllis (Michael) Greb, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
Friends and family will be received at O’Brien’s Funeral Home 3724 California at Cooper Aves. N.S. Pittsburgh, PA 15212 on Wednesday, 2-4PM and 6-8PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, 10AM at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church 1700 Harpster Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Burial will follow at Mt. Royal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and Spark of Hope Ministries 800 Avila CT, Pittsburgh PA 15237-2125 (412) 367-9001.
