Age 69, of Economy, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Beloved Husband of Carole (Chappel) Michaels. Loving Father of Christopher McCarthy of FL., Jennifer (Joel) Reeves and Matthew Henry (Chelsie Seifer) Michaels. Proud grandfather of Nicholas and Emily McCarthy of Florida and Brayden, Abigail and Mackenzie Reeves. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sophie (Rog) Michaels; his Aunt Cill and Uncle Bill White his cousin Billy White and his brother Dennis Michaels.
Sonny was proudly born and raised in the Woods Run area of the North Side. He graduated from North Catholic High School in 1970. Sonny served in the National Guard for 8 years as a crane operator and welder. He was a 30+ year member of Sheet Metal Union Local 12 both locally and traveling throughout the Northeast and Midwest providing for his family.
Sonny loved watching NASCAR and spent many years traveling to various racetracks and spending weekends “racing” with his family and friends.
Throughout the years he enjoyed fishing trips, hunting camp, bowling leagues, RVing, working on various projects in his workshop and spending time with his grandchildren.
He also enjoyed snow-birding with Carole in Florida every fall and winter and spending time with numerous dear friends they made there from all over the country.
For the last 2 years Sonny found tremendous joy in his dogs Louie and Millie and his grand-dogs Hanktus, Marge and Loretta. He also resurrected his almost famous annual pig roast to celebrate his favorite things - food, family and friends. He threw one hell of a party and will sorely be missed by most.
Family will receive visitors Thursday, 3-7PM at O’Brien’s 3724 California at Cooper Aves., N.S. There will be a Blessing Service Friday 10AM at the funeral home, we will proceed to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery following the service.
