Catherine “Cath” Connolly, 87 years old of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away in her home on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Born on April 24, 1939, Catherine was the daughter of the late Martin and Delia (Kelly) Connolly. She is preceded in death by her loving sisters, Mary (Ed) Schindel, Ann (Joseph) Suchma, Margaret and her brothers, John (Grace), Charles, William (Marge), Thomas and Joseph as well as her beloved niece Mary Ann (Jim) Cassidy and nephew, Chuck Connolly.
Catherine was devoted to her extended family and very proud of her Irish heritage. She was everyone’s favorite aunt, not because she tried to be but because she made everyone feel loved. Catherine preferred not to be called Aunt Cath as she claimed that it made her feel old. However, the myriad of great nephews and nieces were permitted to call her Aunt Cathy and she enjoyed every moment she spent with them.
After Catherine graduated from St. Peter’s Catholic High Schoolon the Northside of Pittsburgh, she worked as an accountant for several local businesses and then obtained her Real Estate license which suited her perfectly since she loved meeting new people and helping them find their forever homes. When she retired from Real Estate, she went back to accounting until she retired again at the age of 82. She was an independent thinker and was always ready for a good, stimulating conversation and a glass of good wine. She enjoyed her many friends and dining out often, especially with her “Lunch Bunch” twice a month.
She is survived by her nephews Ed (Terry) Suchma, Rick (Marlene) Suchma, Larry (Marty) Schindel, Michael (Nancy) Schindel and her nieces, Patty (Jack) Vitale, Jan (Ron) Kienholz, Debbie (Bill) Biernesser, and Kathy (Jerry) Kalinoski.
Family and friends will be gathering for a Memorial on Friday, May 15, 2026, between the hours of 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at O’Brien’s Funeral Home, 3724 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 45 N. Sprague Avenue, Bellevue, PA 15202.
In lieu of flowers, it is respectfully requested that memorial donations in Catherine’s name be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ATTN: Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
